“Essays” by David Hume

Essays by David Hume is a half leather binding with a tube hollow, with five false raised bands, and it is machine-sewn on six recessed cords.

This project was carried out in 2014 in collaboration with two other students of the Conservation of Books and Library Materials department of West Dean College, United Kingdom. The book is part of a set of several volumes, each students taking care of one book.

I used a cotton extension to reattach the boards followed by a leather reback. The textblock was cleaned and tears in the paper support were repaired with Japanese paper of various weight and wheat starch paste.

Working in a team was a highly rewarding experience which gave me at the time an overview of what it would be like to work in an institution.
